OM caught up with our dry eye columnist, Pam Theriot, OD, at SECO 2026 where she discussed the stepped guidelines from TFOS DEWS III on finding the root cause of your patient's dry eye disease.

What's new in dry eye disease in 2026? Hi there, I'm Dr. Pam Theriot. I'm an optometrist and dry eye specialist, and I am so excited to be here at the SECO meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2025 with TFOS DEWS III coming out and really giving us a step-by-step approach to finding out the root cause of your patient’s dry eye disease, I'm super excited that in 2026, we've got new medications coming on the market that will really target those specific root causes. And we've already seen in the past 2 or 3 years that we have new medications that treat different root causes. It's all about finding out what's wrong with your patient.OM
