Hoya Vision Care has announced the launch of Sensity 3, the third generation of its Sensity light-adaptive lens portfolio, according to a press release.
The company reports that the lenses are engineered to provide longer activation life and greater resistance to fatigue—common concerns related to the durability of photochromic performance over time. Internal testing that simulated 2 years of regular wear indicated that the lenses deliver faster performance and improved longevity compared to previous generations, Hoya noted in the press release. They are also 4 times more color stable under prolonged UV exposure, demonstrate a 25% improvement in fade-back speed compared to earlier Sensity lenses, and provide reduced blue light exposure indoors and outdoors, Category 3 performance in outdoor conditions, and 100% UVA and UVB protection.
Hoya said in the press release that development efforts for Sensity 3 focused on advancing photochromic dye technology and manufacturing processes, building on more than a decade of prior Sensity product development. The goal was to enhance both reaction reliability and visual consistency throughout the lifespan of the prescription.
Sensity 3 lenses are available in 4 color options—silver gray, bronze brown, emerald green, and oceanic blue—in polycarbonate material. Silver gray and bronze brown are also available in other materials.
The lenses are compatible with Hoya’s premium iD progressive, single vision, and backside progressive designs, and can be combined with the company’s antireflective coatings, including Super HiVision Meiryo EX4.
Sensity 3 will be available through VSP beginning April 16, and additional managed vision care plan availability is expected to follow. Eyecare professionals can obtain further information through Hoya Business Consultants. Visionary Alliance members may be eligible for rebates when prescribing the new lenses.OM
